About WHO WE ARE We’ are a group of dedicated volunteers who help shelter animals and other strays in the community that need our help. WHAT WE DOThrough our fund raising efforts, we help dogs and cats that are in danger of being euthanized.We purchased cat kennels to help relieve overcrowding at the Upland Animal Shelter to provide better accommodations for the cats awaiting adoption at the shelter. We rescue at risk dogs and cats when shelters are full. We help to place dogs/cats through contact with rescue organizations and private individuals seeking adoption. We aid the public by providing funding to help them with their pets’ medical needs. We provide free and low cost spaying and neutering for Upland residents.
Mission StatementFormed by the desire to save lives, and as advocates for all canine and feline animals, guided in the spirit of being the caretakers of God’s creatures, stewards to young people through example and leadership, entrusted with educating the public on spaying and neutering, empowered through volunteer dedication, and committed in our mission to make a difference.HOPE Board of DirectorsMargaret Coffman, President Margaret Coffman is a founding member of HOPE and has been an animal advocate her entire life. She has been a resident of Upland, CA since 1977. In 1999, armed with a digital camera, Margaret created a website for the Upland Animal Shelter in order to showcase the impounded animals. A New York transplant, Margaret was formerly an administrative assistant for a major retail chain and more recently in church ministry in children’s education and administration. In 2003, she was recognized as one of the top 66 people in the Claremont/Upland area; in January, 2006 she was named a hometown hero in the City of Upland; in March, 2008 Margaret was named one of the 63 Women of Distinction in the 63rd Assembly District; and in September, 2009 Margaret was named one of Upland's Hometown Heroes at the Los Angeles County Fair. Margaret oversees the day-to-day operation of the organization and is active in all areas of its outreach to the community. Margaret is married, has a married daughter, son along with a beautiful grandson and shares her home with three rescued dogs and cats. Kimberly Saxelby, Vice President Kimberly Saxelby has been an Upland, CA resident since 2002. A professional photographer, her studio, True Emotions Photography, has been located in Upland since 2004. Kimberly has been personally rescuing animals since 1993. Kimberly began volunteering with HOPE in 2003 and assumed the position of Vice President in January, 2005. She is the mother of a nine year old daughter. She has two dogs and one cat. Sharon Adair, TreasurerSharon Adair has been a resident of Montclair, CA for over 25 years. She recently retired in 2008 and began volunteering with HOPE in early 2009. Sharon has now assumed the position of Treasurer. Besides her duties as the treasurer, Sharon also helps out one day a week at the adoption center located at PetSmart in Upland keeping HOPE felines clean and fed. Sharon shares her home with two stray cats, Abbey and Pumpkin, who adopted her. Dawn Gibson, Secretary Dawn Gibson has been a California resident for 13 years after moving to Southern California from Western New York. She currently resides in Fontana, CA with her husband and son. Dawn maintains a full time position as a Senior Implementation Manager for Verifone, Inc. Dawn holds the board position of Treasurer for Upland Meals in addition to her role as Secretary for HOPE. Dawn also assists in off-site adoption events, fostering, and providing support for the application process. Janis Moormann, Canine/Feline Director Janis Moormann is a native of Southern California and Upland, CA resident. Janis graduated from Upland High School and obtained her Bachelor’'s in English Literature from Pomona College where she now works in the business office. Janis is married and has two grown sons. Janis was a soccer mom which occupied much of her free time until just recently. She has always loved animals and has had numerous dogs and cats as pets. Her role with HOPE is both challenging and rewarding. Janis particularly enjoys working with prospective adoptive families to find the right match for the best forever home as part of the on-site adoption team and is directly involved with home visitations and placement. Terry Sengsourichanh, Membership Terry Sengsourichanh is a native of Long Island, New York. She traveled to Southern California along with her family in 1980 and currently resides in Montclair, CA. She worked in the photo industry for twenty-three years before she changed careers. She is now employed as a library technician at Mt. San Antonio College. She has been a volunteer with HOPE for eleven years and assumed a board position in January, 2005. Terry'’s duties include new memberships. She is also active in off-site adoption events.

Spay/Neuter - Upland Residents

Since 2004, HOPE has funded a free program for dogs and cats owned by Upland residents in order to help reduce the number of unwanted litters in order to help curb the pet overpopulation crisis that plagues our country and results in the needless death of millions of healthy adoptable dogs and cats through our country. In a show of support to help our local shelter reduce the number of animals that end up being housed there and to reduce the euthanasia statistics, the HOPE Board of Directors unanimously agreed to fund free spaying and neutering working together with Western University's College of Veterinary Medicine. Through their Veterinary Ambulatory Community Service [VACS] mobile spay/neuter van, HOPE has provided this service to over 800 dogs and cats since our program began. We are very proud of our program and will continue to raise funds to support it!For more information: click here

Adoptions

HOPE does alll that it can to help save the lives of homeless, injured and abandoned animals. We rescue dogs and cats from shelters, street corners; those that are abandoned and relinquished; those that are no longer wanted. We host adoptions every Saturday at the PetSmart store in Upland, CA. Our rescued dogs and cats are in foster care and boarding. If you wish to adopt a dog or cat from HOPE, our process iincludes an application, interview and home visitation. Our goal is to match the right dog or cat to the right home. All of our pets have been spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. All dogs and cats have had a health check at a local veterinarian. All medical records of care for our rescues are provided at the time of adoption.We limit our area of service to within a 30 to 40 minute drive from Upland. Giving back to the community is what we do best. In order to help to save the lives of dogs and cats that sometimes need to be resuscitated due to smoke inhalation and other emergencies, HOPE donated pet oxygen masks to three local communities -- helping out pets everyday, that's what it's all about.Presented to the Upland Fire Department HOPE presented FOUR 3 piece sets to the Upland Fire Department at a City Council meeting in June of 2006. Presented to the Montclair Fire Department HOPE presented FOUR 3 piece sets to the Montclair Fire Department at a City Council meeting in September of 2006. E-mail Margaret at macc219_aol.com for more information.Become a Foster Care Provider for a HOPE Rescue Dog or CatWithout a facility to call our own, rescuing dogs and cats that face euthanasia is a daunting undertaking without foster volunteers!! We either foster our rescues or they are placed in temporary boarding care. Boarding our rescues is very expensive and sometimes prevents us from being able to rescue more at risk dogs and cats that might be facing possible euthanasia.If you are willing to consider fostering a dog or cat for us in your own home, we ask that you contact us. We will be happy to set up an interview with you and go over our guidelines as to our fostering protocol. We try our best to place our rescues in homes where we can work together with you while you provide temporarily shelter and care -- including food and litter [if fostering a cat] for one of our precious rescues while they await adoption.

A $10 donation for our 2012 HOPE Calendar enables us to rescue and save more dogs and cats on death row in shelters in Southern California. Fees to bail dogs and cats out of the shelters vary.
